The National Black Gospel Music Hall of Fame (NBGMHOF) was established in 2012; its original name was Gospel Music & Preachers Hall of Fame & Museum, but in 2020 it was changed. The goal of the NBGMHOF is to preserve the rich legacy and heritage and to promote the future of black gospel music.
The NBGMHOF will operate as an online hall of fame until the completion of the building/facility. The inaugural class was inducted in 2022, and it named 10 gospel-world-renowned icons and did the same in 2023 and 2024. Each February, the NBGMHOF board of governors will select 8–10 gospel legends.
The NBGMHOF is a division of the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame Foundation, which is a private, non-profit foundation with a board of governors that selects artists, songwriters, groups, musicians, promoters, gospel media personalities, etc.
The NBGMHOF and the R&B Hall of Fame will be built together, which will be a state-of-the-art complex that will be called Black Music Village. The NBGMHOF will have vintage artifacts and exhibits that will tell the full story of black gospel music from the beginning and show how black gospel music has made a major impact on the world.
